How is the pre-primary teacher training course assessed?

By APTTI Educational Content · Updated · 2 min read

APTTI assesses the pre-primary course in two ways. Each module ends with 10 multiple-choice questions, and answer keys are sent so you can check your own work. At Diploma level and above you also complete a final assignment and a lesson plan, which senior mentors review within about ten days; if improvements are needed you revise and resubmit. There is no entrance exam.

What this means in practice

Typical early-years assignments include an observation of a child, a weekly theme plan, a lesson plan with materials, and a reflection on an activity you tried.

Common assessment types in early-years courses

  • Module quizzes (MCQs)
  • Written assignments on child development and methods
  • Lesson plans and activity designs
  • Child observation records (with the child's identity protected)
  • Teaching practice reflection or a recorded activity

How to do well

Link theory to real examples, use the NCF-FS or your school's curriculum, and keep children anonymous by using initials or invented names.

Writing a good observation assignment

A strong observation records facts, not judgements. Instead of 'he is naughty', write 'he moved between three activities in five minutes and took a block from another child twice'. Note the time, setting and what came before and after the behaviour. Then link what you saw to child development, and suggest one next step to support the child. Tutors look for this clear link between observation, theory and action, and it is exactly the skill schools want in their teachers.

Practical next steps

  • Ask admissions for the assessment scheme for your level.
  • Keep a file of activities you try.
  • Submit assignments steadily.
ExampleFor her observation assignment, Hema in Madurai watched a 4-year-old (called 'R' in her notes) during block play for 20 minutes and linked what she saw to fine-motor milestones.
What to keep in mind: Never upload children's photos, names or school records in assignments without written permission.

Common follow-up questions

Is there a final exam?

There is no sit-down exam; assessment is by module MCQs and, at Diploma level and above, a final assignment and lesson plan.

Can I resubmit an assignment?

Ask your tutor about resubmission rules.
