Teaching pre-primary in Kochi
Kochi's schools run LKG and UKG classes, and many Kerala-trained teachers later work in Gulf schools. Malayalam and English are the main classroom languages.
NEP 2020 brought ages 3 to 8 into a single foundational stage, and the National Curriculum Framework for the Foundational Stage (NCF-FS, 2022) asks for play-based, activity-based learning in the child's home language where possible. Private nursery schools, play schools, Montessori houses and the pre-primary sections of CBSE, ICSE and state-board schools all hire trained pre-primary teachers.
