Pre-primary education in India

NEP 2020 brought ages 3 to 8 into a single foundational stage, and the National Curriculum Framework for the Foundational Stage (NCF-FS, 2022) asks for play-based, activity-based learning in the child's home language where possible. Private nursery schools, play schools, Montessori houses and the pre-primary sections of CBSE, ICSE and state-board schools all hire trained pre-primary teachers.

Who sets teacher requirements

Private pre-schools in India set their own hiring requirements. Government teacher posts follow NCTE norms and state recruitment rules, which are separate from private professional-development courses.

This is general guidance, checked in October 2026. Rules change; confirm with the relevant authority and your target school.

Classroom languages

Main languages: English, Hindi and state languages. The course is taught in English, and it covers how to support children learning in more than one language.
