Do I need teaching experience to join pre-primary teacher training?
No. You do not need any teaching experience to join APTTI's pre-primary teacher training. You only need the qualification for your level: 10th pass (Certificate), 12th pass (Diploma) or graduation (PG Diploma and Integrated PG Diploma). The course is designed for beginners as well as working assistants and teachers.
What this means in practice
That said, time with real children makes the course far more useful. Volunteering, assisting or observing a pre-school while you study links theory to practice.
Ways to gain experience while studying
- Assist in a local play school or nursery
- Volunteer at an anganwadi, NGO or community centre
- Run a weekend storytelling session at a library or community hall
- Help in a Sunday school or children's club
Teaching practice
The course page says supervised teaching practice in a pre-primary classroom may be included. Ask admissions how it works for online learners.
Turning practice into evidence
Whatever experience you gain while studying, record it. Note the date, the setting, the children's age group, what you did and what you learned. Ask your supervisor for a short reference at the end. This log becomes useful in three ways: it improves your assignments, it gives you real examples for interviews, and it proves to employers that you have worked with children, which matters when you have no paid teaching experience yet.
Practical next steps
- Apply without worrying about experience.
- Arrange a few hours a week with children if you can.
- Record what you try and reflect on it.
Common follow-up questions
Will schools hire me without experience?
Many hire trained freshers as assistants first.
Does experience reduce the course duration?
Not by default; ask admissions.
