How do I write a pre-primary teacher CV (resume)?

By APTTI Educational Content · Updated · 2 min read

A strong pre-primary teacher CV is one or two pages: contact details, a three-line profile, qualifications (including your pre-primary training level and hours), experience with children, key skills (phonics, play-based learning, classroom routines, parent communication, first aid), languages and references. Keep it clear and specific.

What this means in practice

Recruiters scan CVs quickly, so put your training and most relevant experience near the top.

What to include

  • Profile: who you are and the age group you teach
  • Training: course name, level, hours, institute, year
  • Experience: setting, age group, responsibilities, one achievement
  • Skills: specific methods and tools
  • Languages: English and home languages
  • References: head teacher or supervisor

Common mistakes

  • Long paragraphs instead of bullet points
  • Missing dates
  • Listing duties without results
  • Photos of children (never include them)

A one-line profile that works

Your profile should say who you are, the age group you teach and your main strength, in one or two lines. For example: 'Diploma-trained pre-primary teacher with two years' experience in LKG, skilled in phonics through play and calm classroom routines.' Avoid generic phrases like 'hard-working and dedicated'. Then make sure the rest of your CV gives evidence for each claim, such as a phonics programme you led or a settling-in plan you created.

Practical next steps

  • Write a draft using the headings above.
  • Ask a teacher friend to review it.
  • Tailor the profile for each school.
ExampleFiona in Accra rewrote her CV to start with 'Diploma in Pre-Primary Teacher Training (200 hours)' and two years as a KG assistant; replies increased.
What to keep in mind: Be truthful about qualifications and how you studied.

Common follow-up questions

Should I add a photo?

It depends on local custom; Gulf schools often expect one, others do not.

How long should it be?

One to two pages.
